Auctions at Showplace
Position Overview:
Auctions at Showplace is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Cataloger with a background in fine art and/or decorative arts to join our team on a part-time or on-call basis. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and is capable of producing accurate, compelling catalog entries under tight timelines. You will work closely with our team to prepare property for auction while maintaining the highest standards of clarity and market awareness.
Responsibilities:
Catalog Production:
Write, and edit clear, accurate, and engaging catalog descriptions for a wide range of properties. Ensure proper identification, dating, attribution, materials, dimensions, and condition notes. Exercise sound judgment in distinguishing between periods, styles, and makers.
Consistency & Standards:
Execute cataloging in accordance with style guide and internal guidelines and direction. Demonstrate the ability to calibrate tone and depth of information based on value, market strategy, and sale context—ranging from straightforward listings to more developed entries.
Time-Sensitive Workflow:
Manage multiple cataloging assignments simultaneously and meet strict deadlines in advance of auction publication. Maintain accuracy and consistency under time pressure.
Collaboration:
Work closely with team members, photographers, and operations staff to ensure proper presentation of property, including alignment between catalog descriptions and visual documentation.
Requirements:
• Demonstrated experience in an auction environment
• Familiarity with auction terminology, materials, and art historical periods
• Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Flexibility and availability for project-based or short-notice assignments
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
